Lomi Lomi

Lomi Lomi is based on the ancient Hawaiian concept of working with the entire person: body, mind, and soul. In old Hawaii, Lomi Lomi was a way of life; it was done everyday, by all members of the family, in order to promote health and well-being of all in the community. In the tradition of those times, it was viewed as using prayer (pule), breath (ha) and energy (mana) with a variety of massage strokes to release areas of congestion in the body.

In true Hawaiian fashion Lomi Lomi was passed down the familial lines. At the age of 10 Aunty Margaret Machado was taught by her grandfather, and has been teaching Lomi Lomi for many years, having grown up with it as a vital part of her life. She was the first practitioner to become state licensed in Hawaii. Aunty Margaret bridged the gap between the spiritual and scientific sides of massage.

Wes Sen is a student of Aunty Margaret and has carried on her work, teaching Lomi Lomi and Aunty Margaret's Hawaiian Sea Water Colon Cleanse. Arlene continues to learn from Wes' vast knowledge and experience with Lomi Lomi and the Hawaiian culture.

Today Lomi Lomi is known as a soothing, flowing, gentle, relaxing experience. It is this and much more. Complemented with focused techniques to limber tired or stiff muscles, it can produce profound results for those who are open to all possibilities of healing, no matter what culture they come from. One of the major tools is the forearm, used in long flowing strokes to increase circulation or for deep focused work.
